Jake had drifted to Japan without any serious intent, and it was going… okay. He had made friends in the local Salsa community, his Japanese was improving, but for Jake the familiar feeling that had dogged him most of his life—that something special should be happening—had struck again.

Kenneth had been assigned to Japan by the pixie queen years ago, which is just enough time for a pixie to get bored and complacent while keeping tabs on the local talent. Most humans had no magic, and most magical humans didn’t know it was their power that made their food taste better, their paintings more vibrant, or people like them more.

When the two met, the spark in Jake gave Kenneth’s role a new urgency. Jake didn’t just have magic, he had a wild and unpredictable kind seen only once in a generation. How could Kenneth keep Jake’s magic from falling into enemy hands? Kill him? Recruit him? Somehow keep him ignorant?

Jake’s magic had quietly led him to Japan, subtly influencing every choice in his life. That something special Jake had been waiting for was about to happen, ensuring his and Kenneth’s lives would never be boring again.

Kenneth smoothed out the short, red spikes of his hair with one hand as he stood in front of the train’s mirror. He could feel the glances of the other passengers, though he pretended not to notice. He finally had a night to himself. While it had only been three months, it felt like a century had passed. He would know, having lived long enough. The constant grind of finding magical humans, or marks, and handling them rarely left him with any opportunities to enjoy himself. He tried to loosen the stiffness in his shoulders as he thought back over his responsibilities. Over the next few days, he would have to work to increase trust with two marks. And he would need to squeeze in time to reach out to his connections to several others that he had already gotten processed. The life of a pixie was never dull.

For the evening, he had the opportunity to put those concerns to the side. He resisted the urge to smile as he thought about it. A night of dancing was exactly what he needed to feel relaxed and settled. Despite the years of experience, adopting different personas to deal with people still took its toll. A single night of free expression was the perfect fix.

About the Author:
Rasta Musick spent the first 12 years of his life in California before moving to Japan with his family. After graduating from college with a Bachelor’s in economics at the age of 16, he spent the years after learning Japanese and working. Having spent more than half his life in Japan, he’s confident that it’s his home.

With many different hobbies, chief of them being Latin dance, he keeps himself physically active as well as mentally active as much as he can. The Latin dance community in Japan is alive and, surprisingly, quite large.

Rasta has lupus and hereditary coproporphyria. Given their complicated nature, he’s had to learn a lot to adapt and manage them. The process also taught him a lot about managing other aspects of his life, and all of this influences his writing.

OUT NOW—The Persecution of the Wolves by Lucy Felthouse (@cw1985) #werewolves #thriller

Blurb:

Someone’s got it in for the Adams brothers. But who? And why?

Werewolf brothers Matthew and Isaac have lived in the peaceful village of Eyam, Derbyshire all their lives. The villagers know what they are, and have their reasons for keeping quiet. But this secrecy comes at a cost—the brothers can’t risk romantic entanglements.

Then, at the next full moon, a sheep is slaughtered on Eyam Moor, by what could only be a large animal. Even the brothers’ staunchest supporters begin to have their doubts about who—or what—could have done it.

As the brothers fight to clear their names, things are complicated by unexpected opportunities to indulge their lust. Isaac is intrigued by a handsome newcomer to the village, and a vivacious visitor is happy to offer Matthew her all.

Can the men prove their innocence, or is their centuries-old secret about to be revealed to the outside world, bringing their carefully crafted existence crashing down around their ears?

Excerpt:

Chapter One

Modern day Eyam

As Matthew and Isaac Adams stepped through the front door to their house, the telephone started ringing. Matthew sighed. “Typical. No rest for the wicked. I’ll answer it—you go and get ready for work.”

Isaac nodded and headed off to do as his brother advised. Matthew, the older of the two, walked up to the ringing phone and snatched it off the hook. Then, remembering the person on the other end of the line would have no idea what a rough night he’d just had, he made the effort to inject some politeness into his tone.

“Hello? Adams residence.” Isaac had told him time and time again the last part about the residence was old fashioned, that people didn’t say that anymore, but Matthew couldn’t seem to shake it.

“Hello, Matthew? It’s Richard.” The village vicar’s voice, even though he’d only spoken four words, sounded strained, almost panicked. “You boys just get back?”

“Yes, a moment ago. Why, what’s up?”

“I, uh… I got a call. A dead sheep has been found up on the moor. Not just dead. Mutilated. Like an animal attack.”

An unpleasant feeling wormed its way under Matthew’s skin and his stomach flipped. “Oh?” He paused, then figured he had nothing to gain by not saying the next words he wanted to. “You don’t think it was us?”

The vicar’s gasp was instant, one of genuine surprise. “Lord, no! Absolutely not. I just phoned to let you know and I was wondering if you’d come up there with me and take a look? You and Isaac are probably more qualified than anyone else in the village to tell what did this.”

“Isaac has to work. He just went to get ready. But yes, I’ll come up. I’ll let my brother know where I’m going, then I’ll be straight over. Are you at the rectory?”

“Yes. Okay, I’ll see you soon. Thanks, Matthew. Bye.”

“Goodbye.”

Matthew hung up the phone with another sigh. The horrible feeling that had crept under his skin and taken over his gut seemed as if it was there to stay, and it was never a good sign. The vicar’s news was surprising, yes, but he also had an inkling it was going to spell trouble, or at the very least inconvenience for him and his brother.

Pulling in a deep breath in an attempt to calm his jangling nerves, Matthew walked upstairs and towards his brother’s bedroom. The door was closed. He knocked. “You decent?”

“Yeah,” Isaac replied, “close enough.”

Matthew stepped into the room and looked at his brother. He was half-dressed, almost ready for his shift at the doctors’ surgery, where he was a general practitioner. “Sorry to interrupt, mate, but that was Richard on the phone. Someone’s found a mutilated sheep up on the moor, and he’s asked me to go with him to check it out.”

Isaac paused with one arm pushed into his shirtsleeve. “He doesn’t think—”

“No. He was quite adamant about that. He just thought we’d be able to help figure out what did it. I explained you’ve got to go to work, though. I’m going to head across there now and go up with him.”

“I could phone in, let them know I’ll be late.”

Matthew held up his hand. “There’s no need, brother. Relax. Just go to work and help the sick people. I’ll let you know what—if anything—I find out.”

Isaac opened his mouth, then closed it again, apparently having thought better of whatever he was going to say. He continued to dress. “All right, I will. But make sure you let me know what happens. Send me a text or something, and I’ll phone you as soon as I have a gap in between patients.”

Matthew grimaced. He hated texting. Hated mobile phones, actually. Technology was one of the things he disliked most about modern-day life, though it was a necessary evil. It solved as many problems for him and his brother as it created, so he dealt with it as best he could. Fortunately, Isaac had always had an affinity with computers and phones, so he tutored Matthew.

“Yes, all right. I’d better go and find my phone first then, eh?”

Smirking at his brother’s rolled eyes, he left the room and headed for his own bedroom, where he thought he’d left the device the previous night before he and Isaac had headed for the caves. On spotting the mobile phone—which Isaac often made a point of telling him was akin to a brick—he grabbed it, stuffed it into his pocket, and made his way downstairs.

Retrieving his keys from the hook by the front door, he called up to his brother. “I’m going now, Isaac. I’ll see you after my shift at the pub. I’m working until closing time.”

“Okay. Don’t forget to keep me posted.”

“I won’t.” As if he could forget. The dead sheep was going to be a big thing, he just knew it. The vicar might not think he and his brother had anything to do with it, but some of the other villagers might. When there was no proof either way, just his and Isaac’s word, it was understandable, really. Since he and his brother changed into wolves every full moon, it was a natural conclusion to draw. Particularly since wolves had been extinct in England for over five hundred years.

LOVE OVER KPOP by Marilyn Vix #RockstarRomance #Vella #Giveaway

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. The author will award a $25 Amazon GC to a randomly drawn commenter at the end of the tour. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

What is Vella? A Rundown of the New Platform for Readers

What is Vella? It’s a new reading platform by Amazon available through their website or the Kindle iOS app. It works very similar to other online serial platforms like Wattpad and Radish, with a coin or token pay system to unlock episodes. Each story has 3 FREE episodes to get the flavor of the story, and then can be unlocked further after purchasing tokens. The tokens can be purchased in different packages, with more given for the more expensive bundles.

Paid episodes are priced by word count. For example, 3500 words in an episode would be 35 tokens. The word limit on Vella per episode is 600 to 5,000 words. So, no episode can be more than 50 tokens or at the very least, 6 tokens. When logging into Amazon’s website or through the iOS app, you can get 200 free tokens to start reading. You can follow stories and like individual episodes. After purchasing your first bundle of tokens, you are awarded a weekly “Fav” which you can bestow on your favorite story you’ve read that week. The likes, favs and follows all help stories become more visible in the system like many other platforms.

The fastest and easiest way to find stories are to follow direct links to them. Each story is assigned an ASIN, but I have found that search abilities on Vella can be hard to isolate. The easiest way to find Vella stories by your favorite author is by doing a search with their author name, a combination of their story title and their author name, or just the story name. Seaching for just Vella doesn’t seem to bring up much yet. But the system is still new, and things are being sorted out daily as the platform gets more use.

Meiling -- All I’ve ever known is pain. My life has been far from a fairy tale. No parents. No friends. Just an endless nightmare that I can’t wake from. Until the day a man offered me his hand and promised to keep me safe. I’ve never trusted anyone before, but there’s something about him. Maybe it’s insane, but I know he won’t hurt me, and when he puts his arms around me, for the first time in my life I feel loved.

Dingo -- I’ve always had a soft spot for women and kids in trouble. One look at Meiling, and I knew I had to protect her at any cost. The beautiful girl with the wounded soul. After all she’s suffered, all I want is to make her smile, make her feel secure, and give her a chance to find happiness. But first, I need to take out the men and women responsible for hurting her. It might get ugly, and messy, but they don’t call me Dingo for nothing. I’m a crazy bastard, and I won’t stop until she’s safe. I just didn’t count on falling for her along the way.

Publishers warning: Meiling’s past isn’t pretty. Dingo and Meiling’s story deals with issues of human trafficking, bureaucratic corruption, and vigilante justice. This book contains darker themes that may trigger some readers.

The new-ish compound for the bikers wasn’t too terribly far from the Ruby Slipper, but walking in four-inch heels made it feel like I’d hiked for miles by the time I reached the gates. I had my large bag slung over my shoulder that had everything I owned, which wasn’t much, and I fully expected the jackass at the gate to dig through it. He eyed it a moment, then raked me over with his gaze from head to toe.

“You here to party?” he asked.

I winked and gave him a sexy smirk. “You know it.”

The guy chuckled and waved me through. I sashayed through the gates and up to the clubhouse. Music was pounding so loud I could hear it clearly through the closed door and windows. When I pushed my way inside, the thick smoke clinging to the air made my eyes sting as I squinted and tried to take it all in.

“Meiling?”

I blinked and jerked my head to the right, my jaw dropping as Beau came toward me, shoving his way through the crowd from the bar.

“What the hell are you doing here?” he asked, his tone a little harsh as he glanced around.

And just like that, the heart I’d thought I didn’t have anymore broke in two. Of course. Me being here would embarrass him. If I’d known Beau was part of the Devil’s Fury, I’d have kept my distance. The fact I hadn’t seen him since he ran should have spoken volumes. I didn’t blame him for not coming back for me. And I didn’t blame him now for the frantic way he scanned the crowd, as if he were afraid someone would link the two of us together.

“I’m sorry, Beau. I didn’t know you were part of the Devil’s Fury. I wouldn’t have come if…” I swallowed hard.

Beau jolted forward, and a large man leered down at me. “Prospect, you know the rules. Patched members get the pussy first. Go tend the bar.”

The leather vest he wore said Scorpion on it. I assumed that was his name. He wasn’t bad-looking, not that looks had ever mattered to me. But this was Beau’s territory, and I needed to leave. Looked like I’d be sleeping in my usual spot after all.

“I was just leaving,” I said.

“Really?” asked Scorpion. “Because it looked to me like you just arrived. And, honey, I have plans for you.”

“I didn’t know that…” I glanced at Beau. His jaw was clenched tight and his eyes were flashing. Yeah. I needed to leave. Seeing me would be a painful reminder to him. Thankfully, he’d never know what happened after he left. It was a secret I intended to take to my grave.

Without another word, I turned and walked out. I knew he wouldn’t follow, wouldn’t stop me. I didn’t know about the other guy, but he probably didn’t want some woman he had to chase down. I hurried through the gate and back onto the street, then made my way to the bridge on the outskirts of town. The laughter and crude jokes reached my ears long before the men came into view. I stopped, hesitating. I could still go down there, curl up and rest for a bit… for a cost.

Book Tour & Giveaway! Haunted Bride by Maggie Tideswell

Haunted Bride

Moragh's Ghost Book 1

by Maggie Tideswell

Genre: Paranormal Romance

"Excellent read! Maggie Tideswell's book is impossible to put down. This writer is skilled in evoking deep emotions in the readerA pleasure to read." - Amazon Reviewer

A marriage of convenience - no strings attached - suited both Holly and Joshua just fine; a virgin marriage, so that they could both walk away… But they made a crucial mistake: they didn't take chemistry into account.

Holly —
Seriously? They actually advertised for a husband for her without telling her?
She was going to have to kill them, stone dead.

But having a ‘husband’ behind her would give her an edge she didn’t have now. Donald, her ex, and his wife would have to revise their strategy of keeping her children away from her. That was an advantage worth taking a risk for. But what kind of man was likely to respond to a tiny ad in the newspaper no one reads anymore?

Joshua —
Nicole had to marry him now or let him go. He was done waiting, but he did not know what else he could do to persuade her to his way of thinking. Until he saw the little ad in the paper. A plan fell into his head as if he'd snapped his fingers. This woman who audaciously advertised herself as available would do perfectly. Married to another woman would make him irresistibly attractive to Nicole – as was the case with everything she wanted and couldn’t have.

From the moment Holly accepted Joshua’s offer of marriage, strange things started happening to her, and the strangeness followed her to her new (temporary) home. She was going to have to unravel a decades-old mystery before anything else.

A ghost, a wronged fiancée, and trouble with everyone around them. Will Holly and Joshua get what they’ve set out to achieve?

Joshua closed the door behind the last of the guests and steered Holly into what he called the morning room. A friendly fire now burned in the grate, the flames dancing energetically in the wind whispering down the chimney.

He handed Holly a glass of wine. “You’re going to drink this one. I’ve been watching you all night. Not much made it down the hatch, did it? Bettina is going to be hurt to know how little the bride appreciated her cooking.”

“I couldn’t eat. And I’m not much of a drinker,” Holly mumbled. She’d eat and drink and be merry when she felt like eating and drinking, when there was something to be merry about. Tonight was not one of those occasions. Now they were finally alone, she was nervous, if that kiss in the study was any indication…

One question kept going through her mind. Was she strong enough to resist Joshua’s considerable charms? If not, where would that leave her in the scheme of things?

The silence in the room finally penetrated and she looked up. Joshua was staring at her and the expression in his eyes dried her mouth. His face was impassive, but the hunger in those gray eyes burned her skin where they touched.

If only she could shake the feeling of strangeness enveloping her so she could concentrate on Joshua.

He raised his glass to her. “Thank you for marrying me. I hope everything turns out exactly as you wanted it to.” His voice was very low, but her nerve endings had no trouble picking up the timbre.

“No, thank you for marrying me. Do you really think your plan is going to bring Nicole around?”

Glass in hand, pulling at his tie, he sauntered toward her. “Oh, yes, it most certainly will work. You see, tonight was the shocker. Next, she’ll go into denial and try everything in the book to discredit you, then will come the tears and tantrums and finally, there will be capitulation. But enough about Nicole. I told you, I have no intention of spending our wedding night discussing my ex-fiancée. Tonight is yours, Mrs. Jordan.” He touched his glass to hers. “Please, tell me about your children.”

No children.

She shivered and moved a step closer to him. She didn’t doubt anymore that Moragh had followed her to Fairley, but what did she have against children? What did she have against her boys, specifically? “Donny is ten and Matt eight. They’re lively, happy boys. At least they used to be.”

“Why did you get divorced?”

“Umm, Donald must have gotten bored with me. He employed Gwen as a temp when his secretary went on maternity leave. They must have started their affair almost immediately. I thought it would fizzle out, but it didn’t. Donald wanted a divorce, and there was no point fighting it. He married Gwen a month after the divorce was finalized.” Holly glanced into the dark corners. Nothing was lurking there, but someone was in the room with them, she felt the presence.

“He didn’t waste time, did he? Why did he get custody?” Because she was, Joshua also glanced about.

“We have joint custody. To minimize the trauma of the divorce for them, I wanted the kids to stay in their familiar environment. For that reason, we didn’t sell the house, so Donald and the kids could live there, close to their school. It was just easier that way. I had the kids every other weekend and we used to alternate school holidays.”

“Sounds like a good arrangement. What happened to change it?”

Holly tried to concentrate on the conversation. “It started to go wrong about eight months ago. Suddenly, Donald had an excuse every time I arrived to pick up the boys. Then two weeks ago, the same day you proposed, Gwen accused me of trying to get Donald back and of poisoning the boys against her. She told me I’d never see my kids again.”

“She can’t do that.”

“I know, but she is, and Donald is letting her.” Holly swept another glance about the room. It was empty except for the two of them, but she couldn’t shake the feeling that someone else was in the room with them, someone she couldn’t see.

Joshua glanced over his shoulder. “Phillip will tell us what we should do about the kids and your ex. Now, back to us. You seem nervous. Are you scared of something?”

“Yes, very,” Holly said without thinking. She gulped some wine and managed to choke herself. Next thing she knew, the glass disappeared from her hand and Joshua was vigorously patting her back.

Eventually, she wiped the tears from her face. “Thank you,” she croaked, trying to put some distance between them. But Joshua didn’t let her go.

“Are you sure you’re all right?” His hand was warm on her back. With the other, he lifted her chin.

“It went down the wrong way.” Her voice was still not her own.

“Oh, dear, sounds like I’ll have to resort to mouth to mouth, after all.” He pulled her up against his chest. “You’re not scared of me, are you?”

Holly swallowed hard. “Should I be?” She glanced over his shoulder.

Noticing, Joshua turned to follow her glance.

“That depends.” He grinned. “Do you think a kiss very dangerous?”

He was making fun of her. She pushed against his chest. “Joshua, we shouldn’t…we have a deal…and you said…you said…”

With his hand cupping the back of her head, he pulled her closer. “Forget what I said.” He smiled, homing in. “You’re my wife at this precise moment, and I want to kiss my wife.”

But he didn’t kiss her immediately. As he studied her face, his smile dwindled. His hands moved down her back, pulling her closer. It had been a very long time since she’d felt a hard male body against hers. Anticipation dried her mouth, objection pushed to the farthest recesses of her mind.

His breath, tinged by cigarette smoke and wine, warmed her skin in the moment before he brushed his lips over hers, then closed them over her mouth.

When he lifted his head to look questioningly at her, she was the one to draw his head back down to hers, pressing herself to him. The air kissed her back, and she vaguely registered her wedding dress slipping from her shoulders. Without breaking away from his devouring mouth, her fingers found the buttons on his shirt, and it joined her dress on the floor.

He groaned deep in his throat when they came together, skin to fevered skin. He lifted his head when the hard ridge of his erection pressed into her.

She barely recognized his voice. “I want you very badly, but are you sure, Holly?”

She didn’t want to talk, she didn’t want to consider the implications of what they were doing. All she knew was that she wanted him. Her answer was to unclasp his belt and push his pants to his ankles.

He grinned as he lowered her with utmost care to the thick carpet.

The sub looked like he’d stepped out of an Abercrombie and Fitch catalog, with his perfectly styled brown hair, and a brilliant white smile. Perfect on the outside, but he seemed a bit reserved. Michael longed to release the boy’s inner animal, but that might take time and this was a one-night only encounter. He’d have to do the best he could in the short time they had.

Standing behind the boy, Michael felt heat growing inside him. This was new. Normally, he was well into a scene before he became aroused.

Dominance and control brought Michael bliss, but combined with such strong sexual desire this scene might take him to new heights. He wanted to share the pleasure with this sub, so he chose his flogger carefully. Michael began by trailing the tails over the boy’s back and ass, caressing his skin with a light touch. The sub’s body shivered under the caress. Michael increased the intensity gradually. His light stroke became harder.

The boy’s flesh was pinking nicely. Michael varied his rhythm and placed his strokes carefully. He searched for the combination that would give this sub ecstasy. Time after time, Michael brought the boy to the peak of sensation and then backed off.

Finally, a hard stroke landed on a spot that produced a delicious groan. The boy threw his head back and cried out. “Please, please, please…”

Michael felt an answering groan echo inside his own body. He dropped the flogger and moved closer to the boy, murmuring in his ear. “I’m here. You’re okay.”

Michael traced the pink stripes on his back. The boy shivered even though sweat covered his body. He looked so beautiful Michael ached for him. “What is it, boy? What do you want?”

A groan came from deep in the boy’s chest. “I want…I need…”

This boy was everything a Dom could want in a submissive. Michael ached to possess him completely, but he had to know it was mutual. “Yes. Tell me.”

The boy looked desperate. “Please. Please, Sir. Fuck me, please.”

Yes! That’s what Michael needed to hear before he took this further. Now he knew he’d gained the boy’s trust and submission. Now he could take him completely. Michael tried to speak calmly. “I’m going to give you what you want, pet. What we both want.”

Michael slid a finger inside the boy’s ass. The boy thrust back into Michael’s hand. “God, yes, Sir. More. More, please.”

Michael added another finger, stretching the tight passage to get him ready. His fingers rubbed the boy’s gland.

“Oh, God! Please, Sir. Fuck me.”

Michael was more than ready, his own cock painfully hard. He forced himself to remove his fingers.

The boy cried out. “No!”

“I’m not going anywhere, just getting a condom.”

Michael unzipped his pants and freed his cock. He sheathed himself quickly, then he guided his cock home, and pushed inside. The boy sobbed, and Michael thought he might, too. Being encased by such tight heat felt glorious. Michael pulled out and then pushed back inside, starting a quick, hard rhythm. Still restrained, the boy pushed back as much as possible. They were both on the edge. Michael reached around to fist the boy’s cock.

It only took a few strokes and the boy came. He shot hard, and his contractions pulled an orgasm from Michael.

Excerpt One: from The Recruiter

Every man must decide whether he will walk in the light of creative altruism or the darkness of destructive selfishness. This is the judgment. Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, “What are you doing for others?”

Martin Luther King Jr.

Prologue

“Did you think we were going to let you get away with it?” The man’s voice was both incredulous and triumphant. The light from the full moon began to fill the room as Ori’s eyes adjusted. He inhaled deeply. The man continued as if he was talking to himself, “We knew you were up to something. Did you actually think that you stood a chance?” Ori surveyed the room. He squinted to focus on his surroundings.

“Are you listening to me?” the man continued speaking while Ori remained silent, not acknowledging him. Ori made out three bodies in the room with him: one talking, one holding a flashlight, and a third one close to what looked like the door.

The shack was an old cabin but was well built. No lights were turned on, nor was there a fire burning, so as not to attract any unwanted attention. The natural moonlight was perfect to illuminate most of the space. In the areas where the moonlight did not reach, there was the glow of a bright flashlight. This flashlight was suddenly pointed directly into Ori’s eyes.

AUTHOR Bio and Links:

Alexander had an active imagination his whole life, but it wasn’t until the birth of his son that he began putting the stories in his mind on paper. He wanted to be an example of someone pursuing his passion, dreaming big, and taking chances.

Alexander loves people, their stories, and their backgrounds as well as what shapes them, how they think, and what they dream about. He has a passion for learning and is known by most as an intensely curious person who eagerly soaks up anything and everything he can. He dreamt of a career that allowed him to learn new things every day. In writing, he has found a life that allows him to do just that.

After graduating with a degree in business, Alexander volunteered in the U.S. Peace Corps where he aided in creating sustainable small business ventures in Central America. Before taking this leap of faith, Alexander did Business Development and Consulting for large domestic and international companies. These experiences weave themselves into the characters, places and stories he creates.

An avid traveler, Alexander enjoys exploring new places with his family. He was raised in Southeastern Arizona, and now calls Georgia home, along with his wife and two sons.

The Recruiter is Alexander’s first novel, though perhaps the 39th in his mind. We hope you enjoy it, and Deeply Rooted Dreams, as much as we have.
