 STORY EXCERPT:
“You bellowed?” Keiko inquired dryly. Both men’s facial expressions changed in the same instant. Logan’s face slipped into its usual scowl and Cooper grinned at her. Both men started to talk at once, asking questions until Keiko lifted her hand and whistled loud and shrill. This was a skill she had perfected since coming to work at ACE and it came in handy when both men required her help. “As developed as my ability to multi-task is, and to be fair it is definitely higher than most and that is why you headhunted me for this job in the first place and pay me what you do, I have yet to master the ability to conduct two conversations at the same time.”
“Sorry, Kei,” Cooper said with a grin that told her he was anything but.
She shook her head and cast a slight look to the heavens for patience. “Now, Logan the Jenkins file still holds the status of pending, so it will be on the shared drive.” She held her hand up to stop him when it looked like he was about to interrupt. “Until that contract has been verified and the retainer has cleared, it will stay pending. Look in the commercial builds folder on that drive and there is a folder titled Jenkins.” Logan clicked his mouse a couple of times and then gave her the quick thumbs-up that he had what he needed.
“Cooper, there is nothing wrong with the spreadsheet I sent you. Have you changed anything in the master data and not transposed the same formula?”
Cooper got a sheepish look on his face as he tapped away on his keyboard for a moment. When he looked up from his screen, his grin was firmly in place again. “Yep, that is exactly what I did. Again. Sorry, Kei. What would we do without you?” He was the only person in the world that shortened her name, and she secretly loved it.
She nodded her head in response, then turned to look between the two men. “Will there be anything else tonight, gentlemen?”
“No, thanks, Keiko,” Logan said with a small smile and her heart stuttered at the intense look he suddenly got in his eyes. For some reason, it made her think of the way a predator would observe its prey. His look said he wanted to devour her, and she was only too willing to be devoured. She swallowed audibly and felt a gush of heat between her legs.
Giving them a wide, and hopefully not too fake a smile, Keiko nodded. “Great! Then have a good night and I will see you both in the morning.” Spinning on her three-inch heel, Keiko strode from the office pausing only long enough to grab her jacket and purse, then left. She took the elevator down from the top floor, buzzing her way out the door and into the muggy air of a Texas spring evening.
She told herself as she walked the three blocks to her bus stop that there was no way that Logan or Cooper could tell that she had basically drenched her own panties in front of them. She would simply lie down and die of mortification if they ever knew how easily they turned her on. By the time she had reached the bus stop, and her phone started ringing, she had convinced herself that her secret was safe and that they had no clue.
* * * *
“Jesus Christ,” Logan groaned as their office manager scampered from their office and out to the elevators so fast she basically left skid marks on the carpet. “Did you smell that?” Logan turned to his brother and from the mask of barely controlled need etched on his face, it was clear that Cooper had caught it as well.
Cooper closed his eyes and inhaled deeply again. “You’re damn fucking skippy I smelled that. Keiko saw something in the look you gave her that she definitely liked. Her breathing rate increased, I could see the pulse at the base of her neck start beating wildly, and the sweet, sweet musk of her arousal fucking filled this office.” Eyes opening, he turned to look at Logan, and Logan could see his eyes flickering green to black, which spoke of how close he was to losing control to his bear. “Our mate is needy and not going to her and fulfilling that need is fucking killing my bear.”
Logan nodded. He understood exactly what Cooper was saying. Hell, his own bear was pacing impatiently within him, roaring his desire to chase their mate and claim her as theirs, but they had to show some restraint and control. There were issues they had to sort through before they claimed their mate, not least of which was explaining the fact to her that they had the ability to shift into half-ton bears with nothing more than a thought, and were members of the Greenspoint bear sloth. That tended to be one hell of a precursor to telling someone she was destined to be the love of their lives

ADULT EXCERPT

“The first day you stepped into our office, you wore this pale blue blouse with mother-of-pearl buttons.” As he spoke, Cooper reached out and gently began to slide the buttons of the white silk blouse she wore now through the buttonholes. “I wanted nothing more than to remove that shirt, button by button and expose the beautiful expanse of skin I knew hid beneath it.” He matched his words with his actions, gently opening the blouse, pulling it gently from the waistband of the skirt she wore.
The breath caught in Cooper’s throat at the sight of the white demi bra that she wore that pushed her breasts up, plumping them slightly at the top. “Holy…shit.”
Unable to resist, Logan leaned in and looked over her shoulder, getting the full effect of the fantastic things this particular bra did for her breasts. “Sweet mother of God,” Logan murmured as he reached up to slip the blouse from her shoulders. “If I knew you had a penchant for wearing sexy as all fuck underwear like this under those suits of yours, we would have been here a hell of a lot sooner.”
Cooper took a deep breath to try to curb the desire building within him at an astonishing rate. “You were wearing a dark blue pencil skirt with that blouse, and I loved the way it clung to every sweet curve.” Cooper dropped to his knees in front of her, and the sweet scent of her arousal filled the air. The waistband of her skirt loosened and Cooper knew that Logan had released the button and zip at the back. “Now, normally, I’m the kind of guy that rips the wrapping paper off my presents and prefers to dive straight into dessert. But in this case, I’m willing to wait a few seconds more than I want to, because I have the feeling that bra you’re wearing might be part of a set, designed to drive a man insane.”
Gently, he gripped the edge of her skirt and slid it over the luscious curve of her hips, and then let it drop to the floor, leaving her standing in just her underwear, and Cooper growled at the barely there panties their woman was wearing. He looked up at the goddess who stood before him and nearly swallowed his tongue.
Gently he ran his hands up the backs of her legs. He groaned when he got to the naked globes of her ass. “You wear G-strings? Logan’s right, if we knew about these we would have been here a hell of a lot faster.” Unable to wait another minute, he gently stripped the small scrap of lace from her beautifully bare pussy and then tugged her hips toward him. “Lean back, love. Rest your shoulders on Logan’s chest.” He watched as she complied, noticing that Logan had stripped the bra from her, and removed his own shirt. His hands cupped her breasts, his thumbs strumming her dark nipples, and a rosy red shade of arousal had swept across Keiko’s chest and up her neck.
“I’m gonna taste you now, love.” Cooper gently lifted her left leg to place it on his shoulder, trusting his brother to hold her strong all the while looking up into her lust-glazed eyes and grinned. “Feel free to scream for me.” Then he placed his mouth right over her very wet pussy, listening to her sweet cry of shocked pleasure, and swept his tongue through the hot liquid that had pooled there, pulling it into his mouth. Her flavor was sweet and salty and so fucking addictive he knew she was going to quickly become his favorite meal. Then he settled in to drive her crazy. He took the sounds she made as verbal clues, telling him what she liked and how she liked to be pleasured.
When he swept the flat of his tongue up and over her swollen clit, she thrust her hips forward with a cry. When he gently slid his finger up inside her hot, tight pussy, she shuddered and gripped his hair, which he liked a lot, but it was when he combined the two together that had her screaming his name as she shattered against his tongue. Growling softly, he lapped up every drop of cream her body rewarded him with, loving her through the first orgasm of many he was determined to give her tonight.
As he pulled back he felt the last sliver of his heart, the part he held back in case all their plans went to hell, slide away and join the rest, completely and utterly with her.

Five questions for the author
Q: Every book is special to an author.  What is it about this book that makes it special for you?
A: Every book is special, and I love all that I have written and the ones I have yet to write!  But this one is special because it brings in a little Japanese element that means a lot to me.  I lived in Japan for three years and it is a language and culture that is near and dear to me.

Q:  Sometimes things happen when you are writing a series that wasn’t expected at all.  Have you had this happen to you?
A:  Heaps!  I am not a planner.  I am a write-by-the-set-of-your-panties kinda girl.  There have been moments where I will finish up a scene and be like WTF?  I did not see that coming!

Q.  Is that why you always include a danger element to your books?
A.  I write what I love to read.  I love books that take you on a journey, but where the characters face a challenge that adds an element of urgency to them and to the book.  As a reader, there is nothing I like more than getting that goose bump, hair rising on the back of my neck feeling as I join the characters within the book I am reading on the journey to solve their mystery.  I want to give that to my readers.

Q.  What are you working on at the moment?
A.  I have quite a few WIPS on the go at any one time.  Right now I am working on book 9 ni my Grey River series, book three in my Sniper Team Bravo series, a collaboration work I have on the go with Sarah Marsh and Elena Kincaid and a couple of stand alones that had caught my muse’s interest.

Q.  Do you have anything to say to your current readers or to those that haven’t yet read you work?
A.  If you have read any of my books, thank you so very much!  It blows my mind that someone has actually read something that I wrote, but gosh I hope you enjoyed it!  Did you?  Please let me know, I find I suffer from a slight case of needy-nelly with my writing.  If you haven’t read my book, but you love erotic romance stories between strong men and an independent woman, where the path to their happily ever after can be a bumpy one, but there is always a happily ever after, and their love and laugher is real on every page, then you’ll find my books right up your alley!

Author bio:
Maia Dylan lives, loves and works in beautiful New Zealand.  She married her best friend and they have two adorable, but stubborn children who obviously take after their father.
Maia’s career has featured a lot of travel, and she has filled her time at airports and in the air with books, books and more books.  Her love of erotic paranormal romance has seen her amass a huge library.  She has been an avid reader and lover of ménage romances since she read her first book in this genre about three years ago.
In January of 2015, Maia submitted her first ever manuscript to Siren Publishing.  She wasn’t at all confident that it would be accepted and in fact she was expecting a nicely worded email with a resounding no!  Much to her surprise less than two weeks later she had an acceptance and a signed contract in hand.  Since then she has also been published by Evernight Publishing and is loving every minute of it.
Outside of writing, Maia loves to eat, so she loves to cook!  Her herb garden is legendary, but she still has issues getting tomatoes to grow.  She’s been a performer for years, and has even sung on international stages, she would love to own a classic Ford Mustang one day and of course have the opportunity to race it on a race track without fear of a speeding ticket.
Although ultimately her dream is to be able to write full time on a sandy beach with a Mai Tai at hand, she is quite happy to fit her writing in when she can.  As long as someone reads her books, gets a laugh and maybe come to love her characters and much as she does, then she feels that she is living her dreams no matter what!

Unmasking a Hero #MMromance by Elodie Parkes

We’re unmasking Tom, the hero from, ‘Love Unmasked, At the Candy Apple,’ today. #MMromance with a twist of fun

Love Unmasked, At the Candy Apple: Elodie Parkes
Handsome Tom Wells sets lonely Scott Palmer’s heart racing as he watches Tom come and go from his apartment across the street. Scott longs to meet Tom, and when he scores a new job delivering goods for a local distributer, fate hands him the opportunity.
Tom works in a nightclub—the Candy Apple, and in the sultry environs, a masked stranger seduces Tom. The seeds of passion are sown, but just who has ignited Tom’s passion?
Scott’s longing to know Tom leads him to join the elite nightclub. On his first visit, the club holds a masquerade event.
Who is kissing who? Who’s under the black velvet mask?
An erotic MM romance, with a twist, and an HEA.

Hi Tom, welcome to the blog
Hi, thank you for inviting me to talk with you and your readers today.

Tell us a little bit about yourself
Well I’m the bar manager in the Candy Apple. I also serve there. That’s fun, actually.

What’s the club like ... who goes there?
The club caters for a wide cross section of society and every so often, Charlie, the owner and my boss, holds special events. The story features an event.

How would you describe yourself?
You mean looks? Well—tall, dark hair, blue eyes. I like to work out. If you mean
personality, I’m a happy person in general, tolerant, accepting...

What do you like in a man as a boyfriend? (He smiles.)
Huh, now I’ve met Scott I won’t be looking for anyone else, but he’s exactly what I do like.
He’s around the same height as me, muscled, dark hair, a little longer than
mine, gray eyes that are so sexy, and in fact, he’s completely sexy.

Since you’ve fallen into describing Scott, tell us about him
He’s great. He’s loving and caring. He’s clever and works hard. He loves music like me, and working out. He’s special. Scott will always work things out and talk about stuff. I love him.

What’s hot about the story?
Hell, just about every love scene and then there’s the twist. It’s our story, Scott’s and mine ... our journey to love, but even I didn’t see it coming. I guess deep down I wanted love and I didn’t know how much until a few things happened.

Okay let’s have some quick questions
Lights on or off? (Tom starts laughing.)
Either and both.

Jeans or a suit?
Of course that depends on where I’m going. I wear both, doesn’t everyone, but if you’re asking what’s my favorite, it’s jeans.

Vanilla or chocolate?
Can I say strawberry?

Boxers or briefs? (He grins)
I own both styles. Commando’s a favorite in summer.

Favorite color
Really? Er ... blue

Favorite music
Not even a chance of answering that because I love so many styles of music, wait not jazz. My dad used to listen to jazz, old stuff. I couldn’t like it.

Sum up being gay in a sentence. (He looks surprised)
Never been asked to do that before. Okay, here goes. I was born like it and I’m cool with it. Does that sound familiar?

He’s laughing now and I know he’s quoted the book, but then again it’s Scott’s and his love story so they’re probably his words in the first place...
Thank you for being here today, Tom.

Thank you for talking with me. It’s been a lot of fun. I was nervous about what you’d ask, but yeah, it’s been good.

Read a teaser, 18+, from Love Unmasked, At the Candy Apple

The club opened and filled to bursting within half an hour. Tom served and danced along behind the bar to the music. He chatted with customers and other servers. The bass thumped, people swayed and spun on the dance floor. Lights glinted on the sequined and glitter sprinkled masks. A man beckoned to him from the end of the bar and Tom went to get the order. The guy wore a half mask. The black velvet covered his cheekbones and his dark hair curled over the forehead giving him a rakish look.

“Vodka and you.” The man leaned forward to speak so that Tom could hear above the music.

A spike of excitement mingled with surprise. This was a new pick up line and from a guy too. Tom took in the width of the man’s shoulders and his muscled chest beneath the white dress shirt. A black tie hung unfastened around the unbuttoned collar of the shirt and the man held his jacket in one hand.
“Ice?” Tom asked and flashed his eyes at the customer. That look was one he used on guys at the gay bar he went to sporadically.

“Mmm—if I can take it from your lips.”

Heat traveled up from Tom’s balls to his stomach. His cock stirred and lifted. This was a definite proposition and against all his usual rules, desire to risk
saying yes filled him.

“Coming up.”
He turned to get the drink. His heartbeat quickened as he picked up an ice cube
and fit it between his lips. It wasn’t straight from the freezer so it didn’t
stick, but the cold sent a shiver over him as he brought the vodka to the
customer.

He leaned over the bar counter. Tom expected the guy to take the ice with his fingertips and that would have been sexy enough, but he met Tom halfway across the bar in an open-mouthed kiss to suck the ice cube from Tom’s lips.
A sweep of heated desire flew through Tom’s body and his cock hardened. His eyes closed instinctively and a low sound escaped him as his nose touched the man’s cheek just below the velvet mask. A light woody-citrus scent from the man’s after shave filled his head, and the man’s lips touched his sexily. Their masks rubbed together. A shiver went down Tom’s back. His ass clenched. He wanted this guy’s cock in his hands. If the guy asks to meet me, I’ll break my rules and agree. He drew away.

The guy gazed into Tom’s eyes as he crunched the ice.

Mesmerized by the scorching look, Tom waited, unable to tear himself away.

‘My goodness, woman, you look like the proverbial beached whale!’ Amy grinned at the teasing smile on her former boss’s face.
‘Thanks, Peggy. I know I can rely on you to be ready with a huge compliment!’
‘Huge is the word, and you are more than welcome!’ Taking advantage of a lull in custom, Peggy followed Amy to where Kit was working, and pulled out a chair for her friend before sitting down herself. ‘So how long have you got to go now?’
‘Only two months, which is nothing like as long as I need to get ready, or even get my head around what's happening to me! I have far too much to do before the baby comes, although we’ve almost finished decorating the nursery at last. I haven’t even managed to find anyone to cover my job at Home Hunters yet.’
Amy thanked Megan, Pickwicks’ chief waitress, as she delivered a tray of drinks and half a huge carrot cake for the three friends, before asking Kit, ‘I don’t suppose that lovely husband of yours fancies coming back to the business while I’m on maternity leave?’
Kit shook her head. ‘Not a hope. It did cross my mind after Phil gave up running Home Hunters that he might have withdrawal symptoms and want to go back, but he took to running the bookshop like a duck to water. I can’t see him ever going back. And he wouldn’t have the time, to be honest. Did I tell you that they’re so busy now, he and Rob have employed a guy to help them with their new educational courses at Kew?’
Amy beamed. ‘No, you didn’t. That’s fantastic! I bet Jack would be thrilled for them if he was here.’ Suddenly pensive, she picked up her cup, ‘I don’t suppose either of you have heard from Jack?’
Peggy shook her head as Kit said, ‘Not a word. I thought he’d keep in touch with you though, Amy, even if he went quiet on the rest of us.’
‘Paul says he’ll turn up eventually, but I’d rather like to be able to tell Jack about this bundle,’ Amy patted her stomach, ‘before he or she stops being just a bump in my jumper. I might ask him if he wants to be godfather.’
Kit nodded. ‘Jack is godfather to the twins, and although he’s a dreadful role model on the morals front, both Thomas and Helena have always found him great fun, and say that having a gay godfather is, and I quote, “Well cool”.’
Peggy had never understood the loyalty Jack’s two ex-girlfriends felt for him considering how appallingly he’d treated them both. She certainly wouldn’t want anyone who’d stood her up on her wedding day – albeit only in the role of usher – to be a godparent to her child, but she simply asked, ‘How long has he been AWOL for?’
Amy frowned. ‘It must be more or less four years since I last saw him, and about twelve months since I last spoke to him. It’s not so much being AWOL as missing in action. How about you, Kit?’
Peggy and Amy exchanged glances as they saw Kit staring blankly into her soup bowl-sized cup of black coffee.  ‘Kit? You with us?’
‘What? Oh, sorry, guys. I didn’t get much sleep last night, I phased out for a minute. What was the question?’
Peggy had noticed how distracted Kit had been lately, although instinct told her that she shouldn’t ask her friend about it yet. ‘When did you last hear from Jack, honey?’
‘I’m not sure, must be at least a year. That is very Jack though, isn’t it. I bet he’d get a kick out of the fact that we’re all back here wondering where he is and if he’s OK.’
Amy, who’d had similar thoughts herself, grimaced. ‘I wouldn’t be surprised – although I’d like to think that at his age he’s finally grown out of playing those games.’
Kit and Peggy laughed in unison. ‘No chance!’ ‘I assume he’s either still travelling around the world – or working in someone’s garden, using that horticultural qualification he got after Paul and I got married.’
‘Sounds possible, and of course,’ Kit let her inner storyteller go in a way she wished she could on paper, ‘if Jack has spent all the inheritance his grandfather left him, he could have got a job in the grounds of some posh house, had a torrid affair with the heir to the manor, and be in the middle of a society scandal.’
Amy smiled as Peggy divided the carrot cake into mountainous slices. ‘That sounds entirely possible, and I sort of hope it’s true! The boyfriend bit, I mean, rather than the scandal bit.’
Pulling her cake plate closer, Kit shrugged. ‘I’m not sure he’d risk another relationship, not after Toby hurt him like that. I suspect he’s reverted to full-on sleeping around mode.’ Realising she had sounded rather curt, she added, ‘I’d like to be wrong though. If he settled down a bit, he might come home...’

New Release: Stayed for Alpha by Rose Wulf #Paranormal #Erotica @EvernightPub

Hello again! Thank you so much for having me back! This time I’m here to tell you about the latest installment in my Night Shadows series: Stayed for Alpha!

Blurb:
Adam Jefferies is a young Alpha taking a big risk. He wants to set down roots in California - a state largely claimed by the oldest and most powerful vampires. He's going to have to earn their place the hard way.

Whitney King is a Rogue wolf with a single purpose in life: get revenge for the pack that took her in so many years ago. The pack that was slaughtered by a dangerous vampire. She's tracked that vampire to California and she's prepared to risk her life to end him. But she's not prepared to find something worth living for...

When Adam takes Whitney in she says it's temporary. He knows it won't be, but he'll have to show her why if he wants her to stay.

Excerpt:
But when was the last time Rogues traveled in groups? Maybe that was the problem. Dylan was obviously Rogue. That alone would give most wolves reason to be cautious. Brody and Camila were followers. Gammas. Their attaching themselves to a stronger wolf made sense. And if Dylan had Alpha in him, his acceptance of them would make sense, too. But he swore he didn’t.
Adam just wasn’t sure whether or not he believed that.
As he watched, Dylan leaned a little too far into Whitney’s personal space and Whitney recoiled. Adam felt a surge of possessiveness flare inside him. Dylan was flirting with her and it pissed him off. Fortunately, Whitney’s rejection of those advances was fairly obvious. Except, apparently, to Dylan.
Dylan’s arm extended as though he were reaching for her and Whitney moved fluidly to her feet. Out of reach.
Adam took a step forward on instinct.
“Hey, Dylan,” Jim called from the grill a heartbeat later. He gestured with the tongs he held. “Why don’t I show you how to work this thing?”
That was probably for the best. Although if Adam’s possessive instincts didn’t cool off, Dylan’s time with them would have to be cut short.
Whitney used the opportunity to extract herself from the others and strode toward him purposefully. She stepped right into his personal space like she belonged there. “Kiss me,” she breathed. “Make a scene.”
Adam didn’t really need to be asked, but he didn’t bother to explain that, either. Instead he wrapped his arms around her waist and hauled her up to his lips. His tongue slipped into her mouth without resistance and Whitney’s hands dug into his shoulders as she held onto him. He nearly growled against her lips. Suddenly he felt like he’d been starving for her, and it was harder than it should have been to keep the kiss from leading somewhere.
He was hard and suitably breathless when the kiss broke. The sound of her own uneven breathing drew a brief grin from him. Until he remembered the reason for her demand. “Was Dylan bothering you?” he asked, voice low so as not to carry.
Whitney laid her head on his shoulder, face turned in so that she could talk quietly. “More like annoying. I’m hoping he’ll take the hint.”
Doing his best to smother his growl, Adam bent his head and traced his lips along her slender throat. “We’ll just keep reinforcing it.” Right then, right in that moment, Adam would have marked her as his just to keep her safe from another wolf’s harassment. As it was, he vowed that for as long as she was his he’d make sure his scent lingered on her skin. Thick enough that no wolf with half a nose could miss it.
“Are you sure about including them?” Whitney asked, drawing him out of his lust-induced frenzy. Mostly.
Adam frowned and lifted his head so that his chin rested on her head. She fit perfectly against him. Slender and soft, a good head shorter. Perfect for holding in his arms and wrapping himself around. But this wasn’t the time to be thinking about those things. Those might be things best left unexplored, even. “I’m reserving judgment. I have to consider it, at least.”

Book Blurb:
Beasts of Bodmin Moor, Book 3
To guard his woman, he must claim his mate.
Ex-special forces operative Nathan Quinn enjoys women, but he just doesn’t trust them. Thanks to a mother who abandoned him, he prefers no-strings relationships, and has no intention of ever marrying or mating with a fellow shifter.
He focuses his energy on building his security business until a human woman catches his eye—and firmly rejects his charm. Which only challenges him to work harder to break down her barriers.
Born of ambitious, emotionally cold parents, Erin Howard’s craving for attention led her down a slippery slope to an abusive relationship. Now on the run from her ex, she plans to lay low and stay away from possessive, dominating males. But who says she can’t enjoy a little hot sex without a shred of commitment?
Soon their attraction explodes into something so fierce, that Nathan feels the primal need to mark Erin as his. But his fallback plan—distance himself—creates the space for Erin’s past to drive the final, possibly fatal, wedge between them.

Excerpt:

Nerves fluttered in her belly, but Erin breathed them away. She was going to enjoy herself tonight. She was going to be normal, make conversation, have fun.
But when the door swung open in response to her knock, those nerves came flooding back with a vengeance. The man towered in the doorway, his dark and brooding good looks like something in a magazine devoted to warrior gods of times long ago.
“You must be Erin,” he said, the hint of a smile softening almost harsh features. “Come on in.”
He stepped back, and Erin was about to enter when Talia came down the hallway. “Great. You’re early. We can have a drink before we get going. You’ve met Caleb?”
Erin looked up at the man. Handsome, and built. No wonder Talia always had a satisfied smile on her face.
No sooner had she accepted Caleb’s outstretched hand than Talia reached out and all but pulled Erin into the house. “Come and meet everyone.”
Everyone?
Erin’s knees went wobbly, her stomach pitching in a way that had her evening snack threatening to revolt. Maybe she wasn’t ready for this after all. It was too soon. She needed time to adjust, to work out exactly who she was going to be, before she thrust herself into life again.
Talia had other ideas and guided her into a room off the hall. Stepping across the threshold, she heard Naomi’s laughter. Her new friend had her arms wrapped around the neck of a formidable-looking man who in turn had his arms wrapped around her.
“Break that up, you two,” Talia instructed. “Save it for your wedding night.”
“That’s days away yet,” Naomi complained, smiling up at the man who was obviously Tynan. “He can’t keep his hands off me for that long.”
“My female speaks the truth,” Tynan said. “Anyway the mating has already—”
“Ahem…” Talia loudly cleared her throat, and the couple looked over. “We have company.”
Erin had the distinct impression she’d interrupted something, and not just a heated embrace between an engaged couple. But the smiles that headed her way, and the companionable way Talia slid an arm around her waist, made her think she’d imagined it. She must be so on edge lately that she was seeing spooks where none existed.
“Come and meet Tynan,” Naomi said, grabbing her away from Talia. “Ty, this is Erin. She hasn’t been in Bodmin very long, and she works at the tea shop, remember?”
A look passed between the couple, and again Erin felt as if she was missing something.
But then Tynan smiled and held out his hand. “Good to meet you, Erin. Hope you’re ready for a raucous evening.” He slipped an arm around Naomi’s shoulder, and the simple gesture was filled with possessive intent. “According to my woman, you’re all going to party enough to set the moor alight.”
“Well, I…”
“Don’t listen to him,” Naomi said. “Tynan, take her coat. We’re having a drink here while we wait for a couple of the other girls to arrive. What’s your pleasure?”
“Lime and soda if you have it.” She smiled when Tynan helped her out of her coat.
“Forget that.” Talia ushered her onto the sofa. “No soft drinks allowed tonight. Unless you’re allergic or sworn off alcohol on religious grounds. No? So, what’ll it be?”
“White wine would be good.”
While Caleb went across to the drinks cabinet, Talia sat next to her on the sofa. “Love your dress.”
“Thanks.” Erin tugged the skirt of the simple navy shift down to her knees. “Naomi said I had to wear something good.”
“I said something sexy.” Naomi plunked herself on Erin’s other side and eyed Erin’s dress. “I would have preferred more of a cleavage,” she said in a hushed tone that only the girls could hear. “But I’m not complaining.”
Grateful, Erin took the drink Caleb handed her and took a healthy swig. Conversation turned to logistics regarding transport for the evening, with Tynan and Caleb sitting side by side on the opposite sofa. Good Lord, Erin thought, taking several surreptitious sips of her wine. The room positively hummed with masculine appeal. She couldn’t remember ever seeing two more intimidating men in her life, or two more attractive and virile, but while they seemed tough and formidable, she didn’t feel especially uneasy in their company.
It was apparent from the looks and smiles the men each shared with Talia and Naomi that there was a whole bucketload of love in the room. In their men’s presence, the women seemed relaxed and completely at ease with themselves. Erin wondered how that must feel, considering her own experience had only ever been one of fear and intimidation.
The sound of the front door closing and heavy footsteps pounding down the hallway brought Erin from her reverie before she could take a painful trip down memory lane.
If she’d thought the testosterone levels couldn’t rise any higher, she hadn’t been prepared for the man who stepped into the room. Built like a tank, his shoulders filled the doorway, while the heavy scowl pushed the first real fluttering of fear into her since she’d arrived.
“If you expect me to drive that piece of garbage, you could have at least washed it first.”
The deep timbre of his voice and the edge of vitriol in his tone caused Erin to slink down a little in the seat, but since his attack was aimed at Tynan, she tried to steady her breathing. Her heart hammered anyway, her mind scanning back to a time when a similar attack was aimed at her.
“You want me to fill that junk trap with gas for you? Then you’d better make it worth my while by getting on that bed and spreading your legs for me. Now.”
Oh God. Oh God.
“Are you okay?”
Erin glanced up into Talia’s concerned gaze. “Yes, fine. Sorry.”
“Don’t apologize. I’ll get a cloth.”
Erin looked down, surprised when she saw the damp patch on her dress. Bloody hell, her hand had shaken so much that she’d spilled her drink.
She looked up into the dark, steady gaze of the man who had just arrived. He eyed her with little interest, but her stomach jumped like a train.
“Here.” Talia mopped at Erin’s dress, then turned her glare on the man. “Why did you want to come in here and scare my guest, Nathan Quinn?”
“Didn’t know anyone else was here. Thought you females had left for the evening.”
“This is Erin,” Naomi said. “She’s just moved to the area.”
Another pointed exchange of looks, but Erin knew she was reading too much into everything right then. They must all think she was a bloody loony.
The man called Nathan turned his gaze to her and inclined his head.
She tried for a smile but wasn’t sure she made it. Her whole body was reacting as if to a threat, and she feared she was about to go into full panic mode.
“Well, let’s get this show on the road,” Naomi declared and stood. “I can hear the others arriving, which means we’ve got that serious partying to do. And you guys have some serious poker to play.”
She took Erin’s glass and handed it to Tynan, then kissed him full on the mouth. “That should keep you for a while. Enjoy your game.”
In response, Tynan put the glass down and hauled Naomi up against him. “That won’t keep me for five damn minutes. Come here.”
Erin felt she should turn away when the kiss morphed into the kind that required locked doors and darkened rooms.
“Don’t mind them,” Talia said drawing her into the hall where Caleb held out their coats. She turned to her husband. “You’re really sure you don’t mind driving us? We can get a cab if it’s easier, then you can drive to Truro with Ty and Nathan. That way you’ll get to enjoy a drink.”
“I said I’d take you. I don’t want you out of my sight any longer than necessary.”
The big man smiled down at her, his eyes gleaming. Talia rewarded him with a soft kiss, her palm resting lightly against his cheek.
While Caleb didn’t haul Talia against him to give her the same treatment Tynan was currently giving Naomi, Erin felt equally uncomfortable. The possessive look Caleb gave his wife made her feel like she should turn away from something intensely private and intimate.
Naomi came into the hall, flushed and pleased with herself. “Ready?”
Moments later, after brief introductions to the two women who had arrived, they were piling into Caleb’s SUV. From the backseat, Erin found herself glancing back to the house, hoping against hope she didn’t catch sight of Nathan again.
The man made her feel uneasy and anxious. They’d barely shared a glance, but he’d looked at her like he knew something nobody else did. She shuddered at the thought, remembering Naomi had told her that Tynan was his business partner, and they were security consultants. That meant he would know how to access official files, documents, people’s history.
At Naomi’s instruction beside her, Erin clipped on her seat belt and vowed to keep a very low profile where Nathan Quinn was concerned.
