Blog Tour: Riding High by Zara Stoneley

Welcome author Zara Stoneley, who is here to talk about her new erotic romance novel, Riding High. Enjoy the excerpt and don't forget to leave a comment for a chance to win an ebook.

Hi Gale, Thank you for letting me loose on your blog today.

Do you sometimes think it would be nice to walk away from your life and start again? To have complete freedom to make your own decisions - no expectations, nobody telling you what to think and how to act.

Roisin wakes up one morning to find her life in tatters – which could destroy her, or, she realises, could be the making of her. She can make her own decisions, do things that she has never done before, never even thought of doing before.

Even when it looks like we’ve got total freedom, we never actually have though, have we? We’ve got that little whispering voice that is our conscience, we’ve got the morals and expectations that have been instilled in us throughout our lives – and we’ve got the daring, reckless voice that says ‘go for it’!

For Roisin it’s even more complicated, she’s also got the persuasive voice of Saul and, however much she tries to fight it, she just can’t help the cravings every time he touches her.

The thing I loved most about writing this story though, was when Roisin decided to take the bit between her teeth and go for it, the tables were turned and it was suddenly Saul who wasn’t sure who was in control!

Would you like a fresh start, would you dare to do everything differently? Leave a comment and one lucky person will get a copy (pdf or epub) of ‘Riding High’. There are more giveaways at other spots on my tour.

Excerpt

‘I’m not kidding. People are happy to pay for pleasure, real pleasure.’ His voice deepened back to that liquid chocolate point.

She tried to ignore the warmth swirling in the pit of her stomach. He was mad. What type of girl ran a place like that? ‘A brothel, you’re suggesting I run a brothel.’

‘It’s not a brothel and it won’t be you running it. They are trained counsellors with clients who pay for therapy, couples who want to improve their sex lives, not just pay for a quick and dirty shag.’ He smiled. ‘And as for the “us” bit –’ he leant in closer until his breath warmed her neck, sending a new tingle down her spine ‘– we’re in this together. I’ll let you stay and run your stables, but I want something in return. I want you to act as manager for me and oversee the other side of the riding school, which means you pay even less for your rent. We’ll try it for six months, then if you think you can re-mortgage I’ll listen, or I’ll let you know if I’ve decided it’s not working and I need to sell.’ He moved back, and she let go the breath she’d been holding.

‘Gee, ta, that’s so generous.’ But she supposed it was generous, and a stay of execution for six months.

He put out a firm hand then, and she flinched as he took her chin and forced her to look into his eyes. ‘Have you got some other solution?’

‘Why? Why are you doing this? What’s in it for you?’

She could swear he clenched his jaw. ‘Call it a gesture of goodwill, belief in you.’ He paused, shrugged, and she could have imagined his tension. ‘I still make a profit, I can’t lose. Anyhow, it’s your choice, but that’s my offer.’ His hand settled on her knee; a warm, firm hand that sent a tingle straight between her thighs to a pussy already throbbing with frustration again. Swallowing his come, feeling that rock-hard cock twitch in her throat, had turned her on more than she could have imagined, and for a moment she’d wanted to just clamber over the gear lever and settle astride him on the seat. She blinked hard to get rid of the image.

Blurb

‘Have wild crazy monkey sex with the first man you bump into.’ Roisin Grant hadn’t intended to follow her best friend’s advice – but, sometimes, what you expect from life and what you get don’t match up. She never expected her husband would have a stash of home-made porn movies, with him in the starring role, or that he would die and leave her bankrupt. And she never expected to be faced with asset-stripper Saul Mathews and a choice. Walk away from her home and equestrian business, or call his bluff and help him deliver riding lessons of an altogether different kind.

An erotic novel with mixed themes including m/f, menage, sex in public and voyeurism.

Blog Tour: The Island by Tammy Dennings Maggy

My guest today is author Tammy Dennings Maggy, who is here as part of the blog tour for her new release - The Island

Here's Tammy...

Thank you for having me today, Gale. I’ve had a wonderful time on the promotional tour showcasing my latest release The Island (Now and Forever 2). I’ve been asked a lot of questions about how I come up with the ideas for my books and whether or not I base the characters on real people. You would think the answers would be straight forward, but for me it’s a bit more involved. ;)

For this book, the idea came to me after a few readers asked to know more about the past of both Jake and Quinn from the first book in the series, For the Love of Quinn. That book was HUGE at over 219,000 words, but there was still more story to tell. So I wrote a three part short story called “A Christmas Miracle for Jake.” In that brief tale was the start of what would become The Island.

The Island turns out to be a place where lost souls can go to heal and wait for their opportunity to go back to their lives on Earth, or wait for the next lifecycle. It’s been referred to as Limbo by many, but it’s actually much more than that, especially for Jake and Quinn. It’s there in that tropical paradise they meet and fall in love for the first time in this lifecycle, a full ten years before they fall head over heels for each other in book one.

How could that be, you ask? Our two star-crossed lovers have been bound to each other lifetime after lifetime. Through their own choices, they have taken paths leading away from each other and their hearts continue to call out to each other until they are reunited. It’s on the Island where the Gods intervene and allow them one more chance to seal their bond. I’m a firm believer that we are created in pairs, soul mates if you will. It’s our journey back to each other that defines us and makes the love we have for each other grow even when we’re apart. Were always restless and forever searching to have our hearts reunited once again. When that moment occurs, it’s simply magical.

Isn’t that what we write about as authors of romance? It’s the search for that love of a lifetime that keeps us moving forward one day at a time. If you haven’t found your happily ever after yet, don’t despair. It’s out there, waiting for you to choose the right path.  It took Jake and Quinn a bit to find their way, but their reunion was oh so worth it!

Story Excerpt (PG rating)

He said a silent prayer as he entered the room. Please, let this be a huge mistake. Jake can’t be the one here. It has to be someone else. Eric’s stomach churned and he struggled to keep down what little food he had eaten before he boarded the plane in Las Vegas. He had never seen his big brother look so small or helpless. The tears stung his eyes and blurred his vision a bit, but by sheer will alone, Eric held them back. It took several moments to comprehend the scene playing out in front of his eyes. The patient lying in the bed before him could’ve just as easily been a complete stranger, except for the long, light-brown hair. Eric would know that unruly mop anywhere. He stood frozen near the door, staring at the battered and broken body of his brother.

Jacob Hartley was wrapped head to toe in bandages, tubes, and wires. Machines surrounded the head of the hospital bed, whirling and beeping, keeping time with Jacob’s breathing and heartbeat. His face was barely recognizable, colored in various shades of black, blue, and purple. His eyes were hidden beneath severely swollen lids. Every now and then the respirator took over his breathing, just to give his body a little bit of rest. Oh my God! This can’t be happening. Eric approached the bed as his sister reached out for him. They clung to each other. Her body trembled against his, her fear coming off her in waves. He tried to continue to be strong for them both, but he was quickly losing the battle now that he was actually there.
Eric glanced around the room and found his mother, Katrina. She smiled as she stood up from the chair that was placed close to the bed. She was small in stature, but she looked ten feet tall to Eric as she walked toward Jacob. Katrina leaned over, kissed the one part of his stubbly chin not bandaged, and spoke softly near his ear. “Your whole family is here now, Jacob. I’m here, my son. Momma’s here. If you can’t come back to me, it’s okay. Your poppa’s there with you and he will show you the way.”

“Mom—Jake’s not going to die!” Maredyth’s red-rimmed eyes flashed with determination. “It’s not his time to go yet.” She reached for one of Jacob’s bandaged hands and clutched it tightly.

Eric knew he should try to hide his feelings from his sister, but he was struggling, really struggling to find even a spark of hope their brother would ever pull out of this. “Mare—”

“No! We can’t lose him, too. Pop’s been gone a year now. Are you telling me God would be so cruel to decide on a whim to take Jake away almost to the very day we lost our father?”

* * * *

“I’m right here my little girl. I won’t ever leave you. Jacob’s going to need all of us now. We have to convince your brother he has to fight his way back.” Michael Hartley approached the bed and looked down at his son, his middle child. “What were you thinking driving your bike at night during a storm, Jakey?”
“He wasn’t thinking clearly, Sarge. That’s the problem.”

Michael looked up at the blonde, heavily tattooed, and pierced young man leaning against the wall near the foot of the hospital bed. “You remind me a lot of him you know, full of piss and vinegar.” Michael chuckled softly to himself. “It looks like we’ve got a lot of work ahead of us here, Danny. Thank you for staying with him after the accident and dulling his pain.”

Daniel Quartermarsh moved to Jacob’s bedside. He nodded slowly and looked up at his partner. “I did what I could as soon as Fate let me go to him.”

“I know you did. I expected nothing less than if I was allowed to be there with you. It’s just hard to see one of my children in this state and not be able to fix it like I could when he was little.”

The younger angel smiled. “Don’t worry. We have a lot of ground to cover with him, and I’m sure there will be plenty of opportunity for you to work your magic, Sarge. If Fate didn’t think we could handle it, she wouldn’t have entrusted Jake and the rest of them to us. Speaking of the others, I just checked in on Quinn. She’s throwing herself into her work again, but handling things okay for now. I left this world not even a month ago, and she’s not allowed herself to grieve for me.” He glanced down at the very battered and broken man in the bed. “Your Jake’s our priority this visit. Once we get him to The Island, we can work on getting Quinn there, too.”

Michael reached out and folded his arms around his wife. Katrina looked as beautiful to him at that moment as she did on the day they first met. He wished he could really hold her now, so she could physically lean on him during this horrible time with their son. Katrina took a deep breath and smiled. Michael knew she felt his presence with them, as always. “Your poppa’s here with us, Maredyth.”

Eric and Maredyth looked at each other and then back to Katrina with their eyes wide. Eric put his arm around his sister before addressing his mother. “I sure hope so, Ma. All of us could use him right about now.” Maredyth buried her face into Eric’s shoulder as he held her tight.

Daniel added his own angelic light and love to that already surrounding the Hartley family and smiled. “I bet the two of you visited each other’s dreams while you were alive, too.”

Michael kept his arms around his wife of over forty years and nodded. “Now and forever. I promised her I would never leave her, no matter what. Not even death can keep me from her and our children.” The elder angel sighed and his eyes filled with tears. “Jake has always been the free spirit of the family. I never worried he wouldn’t discover his path eventually. But now?” Michael shrugged and shook his head. “How did my son’s life get so out of control so fast?”

Adult Excerpt (EXPLICIT! Adults only!)

His eyes found hers once again and she began to fall. She didn’t care. Thoughts of going back or staying there on The Island disappeared. All she wanted to think about, to feel, and taste was Jacob. Quinn pulled his mouth back to hers. The sweet taste of the berries, mango, and papaya dazzled her taste buds as their tongues teased and danced with each other, fighting for control one moment and surrendering to each other the next.

Jacob finally freed her tits from the laces of her bodice. Watching him tug at the strings with his teeth made her heart beat faster and she giggled before she could stop. He winked and kept up the slow pace. Quinn giggled even more. “I stand by my first assessment. You’re a tease, Jake.”

“Baby doll, you haven’t seen anything yet.” He pushed her dress down to her waist and simply stared. “I’m not the only tease here.”

“What are you talking about?” Quinn slid her fingertips up and down his arms. His muscles twitched and pulsed at her touch. She wanted those arms wrapped around her and to never let go.

“You are the most beautiful woman I’ve ever met. You don’t flaunt it, but every move and noise you make turns me on. I wanted to take this slow, but I can’t.”

“Stop thinking so much and kiss me.” She pushed herself up to meet his mouth once again as they moved on the bed so she was now on top of him. Jacob’s hands slid up her thighs, leaving hot trails with his fingertips. Her body quaked and her pussy clenched as a rush of fluid soaked her panties completely.
Jacob hooked his thumbs in the band of her underwear, snapped them off, and tossed them onto the floor. His hands slid up her body, pulling the dress up and over her head in a flash. He sat up, holding her in his lap, nuzzling first one breast and then the other with his stubbly chin and cheeks. The roughness of his skin against her rock-hard nipples sent her rolling toward another orgasm. She clung to him as he suckled harder on her right nipple while kneading her left breast with his hand. Quinn arched her back and bit her lip before crying out. “Jake, please don’t—”

He pulled back quickly, moving his hands to cradle her face. Concern filled his eyes. “Did I hurt you?”
Her eyes glistened with tears. “No. Please don’t stop.”

* * * *

The catch in her voice nearly broke his heart. The raw passion was there. Her body given freely to him, and yet she still questioned his desire for her. He knew that pain all too well. Here with Quinn though, it all faded away. She did that for him and he wanted so badly to do the same for her. He wiped away the tears that spilled onto her flushed face. He kissed her softly and held her close. “I want you, now and for however long we can be together. I need to be with you. I won’t stop as long as you want the same.”

Quinn slid off his lap and knelt up on the bed, pulling him up with her. She held his gaze as her fingers unfastened his shorts and then slid them down over his hips. Jacob quickly took off his tank top before crushing Quinn’s chest against his. She smiled and his heart beat quickened. “I need you, too. Make love with me, Jake.”

He slid out of his shorts as Quinn eased back onto the pillows. Jacob took in her entire sun-kissed body, naked before him. God, she’s so beautiful. Quinn welcomed him into her arms as he joined her on the pillows, his mouth finding her left nipple this time as his right hand trailed down her stomach.

She arched her back and moaned as soon as his fingers found her throbbing clit. Another wave of fluid gushed out of her and over his fingers. Jacob brought them up to his mouth to taste her. “Mmmm. You taste fucking fantastic. Your sister was right. Wanna try?”

Quinn giggled and licked his fingers clean. That move sent his body over the edge. His cock was bouncing with his need for her, a fact that didn’t go unnoticed by his lover. She reached inside the nightstand for the box of condoms, spilling several over the bed. Jacob smiled as he placed one in her open palm. Quinn slid her hands down his abs to his pulsing member. She wrapped her fingers around his shaft and squeezed a little, eliciting a gasp from him. Carefully she tore open the wrapper with her teeth and quickly covered his cock with the ribbed latex sheath. He thrust his hips forward, causing her hand to slide up and down his shaft. “Oh, now who’s teasing?” Jacob moaned.

He eased Quinn all the way back onto the pillows, and slid down her body toward his prize. He wanted more than just a taste. He wanted to feast on her cunt until she begged for him to take her. He positioned himself between her thighs and looked up to see her watching him, her chest rising and falling rapidly. He winked before popping her clit into his mouth and sucking hard. Quinn nearly bucked him off but he held her hips in place, enjoying her squirming and sighs. It wasn’t long at all before he was rewarded once again with her sweet nectar.

He teased her a bit more with his tongue and then slipped one, two and then three fingers inside of her hot folds. Her pussy clenched repeatedly over his fingers and her body convulsed over and over again. Quinn’s skin flushed from her tits to her toes, because of him, because of what he was doing to her. He wanted more, so much more. He couldn’t wait any longer. He wanted to bury his cock deep inside her, go over the edge, and never come back.

About the Author

As far back as I can remember I have had two dreams: become a veterinarian and a world-famous author. So far I achieved the first one and have enjoyed a wonderful career as a small-animal veterinarian. But something has always been missing. I’ve never stopped writing; that has never been an issue. The problem was getting up the nerve to actually finish one of my novels and submit it to a publisher. What a scary thought to send a stranger something I had poured my heart into. Would they like it? Would they see the characters the way I saw them in my head? Writing For the Love of Quinn was like giving birth to my first child. I had to let my characters go to see if they would take off, and boy have they ever!
Jacob and Quinn’s story is far from over. They’ll pop in from time to time to check in with their friends and family in the next books in the Now and Forever series. They got their happily ever after, and now it’s time for the others to find theirs, too!
Having grown up in Michigan and now living in Northern California, I have had the privilege to experience life in a small town and a big city. Everyone who I’ve met along the way has influenced my writing in one way or another. Their experiences as well as my own help make up the characters that I hold near and dear to my heart. Helping them find the loves of their lives as well as fulfilling a few fantasies along the way is just frosting on the cake!

HIDING HIS WOLF
Urban Affairs 4

When Noah Levy goes on the block, the wolf-shifter recognizes the human as his missing friend. He tracks the buyer, Simon Black, and initiates sex hoping it will get him closer to Noah. Guilt-ridden, Levi tries to justify a very real attraction to the man who owns his friend, but he can't reconcile his feelings. There's definitely chemistry between them, but Simon is the adversary who stands between him and Noah.

Levi is right to be wary. Simon is hiding his real identity. He's a federal agent, and he's using Noah as Werewolf bait. But Simon is having second thoughts. He never expected to fall for the prey—and the bait. Now, he's determined to help both men—but first he has to convince Levi to trust him.

This title is offered at a 10% discount. Offer ends midnight CST, December 1st.

Story Excerpt

Exposing his secret life would make him fair game for human bigots. It would be tough to find a new job, and he’d be hounded by the Feds, who kept a close eye on shifters. Even his own kind could be a threat. Keeping his nose clean and doing whatever the boss wanted had become second nature.
Blending in with humans wasn’t too difficult because he looked like them. Still, Levi’s large frame and intense dark-gold eyes made it a little harder for him to keep a low profile. Humans were so damn suspicious. Their hatreds were so pervasive—religious, sexual, political, social class—they had developed hatred to a fine art. Idiots, they were afraid of their own shadows. He tried to keep all contact with humans to a minimum—except for sex of course.

Life in a Were ghetto would not be any easier. On the plus side, there would be no secret identity to hide. He could be himself, shifting whenever he felt like it. But it was no utopian society. Wolves couldn’t be trusted any more than humans. The Were Resistance didn’t tolerate half-breeds. Having a human mother put a big target on Levi’s back. It was best to tread a fine line between the two species and avoid discovery and all the crap that came with it.

Levi, dressed in bouncer’s black, stood by the door and tried not to think about the main event. He forced himself to concentrate on his job, checking the arrivals, scanning the bar and looking out for trouble. The crowd looked rough, but so far they were behaving. Tonight’s event was by invitation only, and anyone who caused trouble would not be invited back. Levi knew most of the customers by sight. Many of them lived an alternative lifestyle, something outside the so-called norm, and they felt at home here. It could be BDSM, a polyamorous relationship, or even furry fandom. Levi laughed to himself. He knew a few role-playing guys in that subculture who would kill to get their hands on him if they knew he was a Werewolf. Furry sex didn’t float his boat. He preferred fucking in his human form, but if one of those human fur-freaks captured him, they’d expect him to play big, bad wolf. He’d be locked up, and his captor would throw away the key. It was just one more reason for a Were to keep his identity a secret.

Happy Reading!

Shelly will be awarding a $20 Starbucks Gift Card to one randomly drawn commenter during the tour.

Q – Shelly, can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Shelly Holt – Absolutely, I am originally from Southern California, but right now I live in rural Nevada.  Culture shock?  You betcha!  The first six months I lived here I would drive down the street in disbelief shaking my head saying, I can't believe I live here, over and over.  Basically I moved here because my parents were in declining health and needed me.  My mom passed in 2010, but my dad, thank goodness is still with us.  I've acclimated at this point, I still hate the summers though.

Q – When did you first start writing and when did you finish your first book?

Shelly Holt – Very recently, I started last December with a children's book and several short stories.  I was rejected by over 40 publishers and agents.  It broke my heart, as the stories are extraordinary, but I had to come to terms with the fact that as a writer I needed to make money.  I did quite a bit of research and found out which genres are selling.  I quickly realized that romance was a booming industry and downloaded a few novels on my Kindle and was delighted to realize how far the industry had come.  I started writing Tasting Fire in March of 2012 and published in September 2012.

Q – Where do you get your ideas?

Shelly Holt – After I decided I would be doing a paranormal shape-shifting novel, I had to figure out what animal I wanted to focus on.  I knew I needed to stand out from the multitude of other shape-shifting novels and needed something really different.  Now something you should know about me, I love books, not so unexpected, I turned out to be a writer didn't I?  Fiction I buy on my Kindle, but reference books I buy second hand.  I love to haunt the library bookstores where I live.  I had bought a book about Snow Leopards several months earlier as a discard in Las Vegas.  After perusing though the pages and viewing one of the most magnificent hunters ever to evolve from the Himalayas, I knew which animal was to be the focus.  I researched folklore from the Himalayas and learned that many nomadic tribes believed in a legend of mountain spirits called the Pari.  From that, I wrote my outline surmising what would happen if they really did exist?  What would happen if modern science found them out?

Q – Do you work with an outline, or just write?

Shelly Holt – I work with an outline.  I don't always follow it as the process of writing occurs, but I can't write from nothing.

Q - Is anything in your book based on real life experiences or purely all imagination?

Shelly Holt – Have I ever met a sexy, shape-shifting snow leopard?  (laughing) Not to my knowledge, but there was one part of the book that very definitely was based on a real life experience.  During chapter twelve, Rae and Kai meet a middle age woman struggling to push her mother in a wheelchair across a rock strewn path in Sedona.  That actually happened when my parents and I took a trip to Sedona, Arizona.  I had a hell of a time getting her into the shops while trying to push her wheelchair into a charming little shopping plaza.   A monsoon had strewn rocks all over the walkway, well, we made it, but unfortunately no handsome shape-shifter or human man for that matter helped me.  My dad was there, but he has his own health issues and was in no shape to help.  That turned out to be the last real vacation we took with her.

During the same chapter, when Rae is saddened by the thought of not being able to take care of her mother in old age, you are very definitely hearing the author in her, although I lost my mother when I was 41, I was considerably older than Rae was in the story.

Q – Are there certain characters you would like to go back to?

Shelly Holt – Nawang Wangdu was such a strong character that I have a feeling that he will pop up in a novel somewhere, maybe a prequel.  Vincent Tsu as well, I have to tell you he is one pushy shape-shifter.  I remember I was finishing up the chapter that he appears briefly in very late at night, and I was utterly exhausted.  I know this sounds strange, but I could almost hear him in my head telling me “sweetheart, I know you're tired, but you're not done writing yet.”  He made it very clear he wouldn't let me go to sleep until I added him into the scene.  I know Vincent has a bigger part to play somewhere.

Q – Is there anything you would like to say to your readers and fans?

Shelly Holt – Thanks for having me on today.  It is my hope as an author that although Tasting Fire is obviously a work of romantic fiction,  I inspire my readers to get involved in the conservation efforts of the highly endangered  Asian Snow Leopard, there are several organizations that can be contacted on-line that help educated the public on what they can do to help.

Tasting Fire

BLURB:

Shape-shifters have always walked the earth. Shrouded in myth and folklore, hiding in the shadows, watching and waiting. Advances in modern science are now about to reveal them to the world. Kai Tenzin is the self appointed leader of the Pari people. He and his kind evolved from the most reclusive predators on earth. They live and hunt in the most fearsome and rugged terrain known to man, the Himalayas. Kai leaves his small village where the mountains touch the heavens, determined to do anything to protect his people. When he is forced to enlist the aid of the beautiful American scientist Dr. Rae Hales, the last thing he expects to find is a woman who will ensnare his heart and endanger them all. Their action-packed adventure will take them around the world to discover the truth behind the legends and reveal the future of humanity.

Excerpt:

The short ride to Kizhi island was exhilarating on the open hydrofoil.  Kai helped Rae off the boat as it docked at the seven mile long island.  The tour group followed their guide off the dock and onto the island.  They listened intently as the guide in stilted English advised them that the site had become a  world heritage site in nineteen-ninety.  There were more than eighty pieces of wooden architecture that made up the outdoor museum’s collection.  The guide then gestured for the large group to follow him.  The tour group was led up to a magnificent structure.  The center piece of the collection that was known as The Church of Transfiguration.

Rae felt as if she had stepped right into a storybook.  The guide started his official recitation on the history of the structure “the Church of Transfiguration has twenty two onion domes.  It was built during the reign of Peter the Great.  No nails were used in the construction and it was created by using interconnecting wood pieces only.”  Kai stood back taking picture after picture of the breathtaking silver domes.  The guide then indicated for them to enter and put his finger over his mouth to indicate silence.

As Kai and Rae walked in they could hear why the guide silenced them.  A trio of singers were performing a deeply moving mass.  Behind them a gold leaf Russian icon painting glinted in the light that was streaming in through the dusty windows.  The effect transported the tour group back in time.  They were now in a time before digital cameras, before cell phones, to a time when the Tzars ruled Imperial Russia with an iron fist.

My name is Shelly Holt and I live in the middle of the harsh and unforgiving Mojave desert. I write my stories looking out of a window that shows sweeping desert views. Outside is a barren and severe landscape, yet inside my head lives a world filled with exotic shape-shifters come to life, pulled from the pages of myth and legend, ready to entice and seduce any reader brave enough to take them on.

It's funny, I never wanted to be a writer!  In 7th grade English, we were given an assignment.  We were told to write an original poem and turn it in the next day.  I was determined to turn in not a good poem, but a great poem.  I spent the whole night working on it instead of watching my favorite show, The Waltons.  (Hey! it was 1980.)  I turned it in the next day.  Apparently, I succeeded a little too well and was accused of copying it from a book. (1980 remember, no internet yet).  The teacher stated and I quote "this is too good for a seventh grader, where did you copy it from?"  Well, I didn't write for 30 years after that. In my 40's, after a life changing move to rural Nevada as a caregiver to my father, I realized I needed a way to earn a little money on the side.  I did some research on the internet and read all about a certain little book, about a certain little college student and a handsome billionaire with some ahem! (issues.)  I decided after reading that book, I could do that, and Tasting Fire was born. I'll admit it's been strange revisiting a talent buried deep inside for so long, forgotten, but apparently not lost. It's been an important journey and one I am quite thankful for and excited to see where it takes me.

Shelly Holt

P.S. Mr. Jordan, I really did write that poem!

Release Blitz: Raising the Bar by Lucy Felthouse

Raising the Bar by Lucy Felthouse

When Kayleigh takes a gap year before starting University, she decides she’s going to stay away from guys and just concentrate on having fun and experiencing life. That means going through a lot of batteries, but she’s happy and satisfied.

That is, until she gets to Spain on her travels and meets her new co-worker, Luciano. The scorching hot Spaniard soon has Kayleigh’s knickers in a twist— literally—and the time they spend together seriously raises the bar for her sex life. How will any other man ever compare?

*****

My first shift at the restaurant passes in a blur of flirtatious glances. My pussy swells and my clit throbs, desperate for attention. It’s all I can do to resist disappearing into the bathroom for a sneaky wank. Even better, I’d like to drag Luciano in there with me and ride him until his teeth rattle. Instead, I console myself with the fact that once I get back to my apartment, I can do whatever the hell I like. And I know for a fact it’s going to involve an orgasm.

I take a taxi back to my apartment rather than walking the dark, unfamiliar streets alone. It also means I can get there quicker and relieve the tension that the sexy Spaniard has caused. I pay the driver as fast as possible then rush inside and slam the door behind me. I heave a sigh of relief as I lock myself in.

Undressing, I drop my clothes by the washing machine and head to the bathroom, desperate to get clean. It’s not work that’s made me feel dirty, though. The flirting with Luciano have left me seriously wet. The panties I’ve just discarded in front of the washing machine are sodden.

Stepping under the shower, I groan with pleasure as the hot water caresses my fevered skin. I stand there for a few seconds, letting the heat and the water relax me. My tension slips away and runs down the plughole. I grab the shampoo and give my hair a wash, digging my fingers into my scalp and massaging it. Now I’m calmer. But by the time I’ve rinsed the suds, he’s popped into my head again. Damn him.

Drasmyr

by Matthew D. Ryan

BLURB:

We vampires do not make easy prey. Our weaknesses are few, our strengths many. Fear is something we do not know, and death but a distant memory. So tread softly, pray to your god, and gird yourself with silver when the moons arise and night’s dark prince awakens. We fear not the wizard, nor the warrior, neither rogue, nor priest; our strength is timeless, drawn from darkness and we know no master save the hot lust of our unending hunger. We long for blood, your blood and no blade, nor spell, nor clever artifice, can keep us long from our prize. Feel our teeth at your throat, your life ebb from you, and know as darkness comes to claim you that the price of your folly is your everlasting soul.

***

In Drisdak, the city on the Sea of Sorrows, the citizens have much to dread. Unease and foreboding has always been associated with the local wizards guild; peasants have an innate distrust of magic and those who use it. But now, something else is on the rise. A mysterious fire at the guild has left two men dead and a third missing. A small matter, you say? Well, one of those men was the guild master, and his successor wants to know what happened to him. Enter Coragan of Esperia, the renowned bounty hunter. If anyone can unravel this mess he can. But is even he prepared to challenge the horrible evil that lurks at the heart of the mystery? An ancient vampire by the name of Lucian val Drasmyr.

Excerpt:

I change shape and take to the air. It is a clear, cold night, with no clouds to hinder my vision. Below me, the dark canopy of the forest bears an even darker scar; the trail of the old river and its sister road to town and Arcalian.

Despite my near limitless power, I am cautious about openly wandering in a human city on a clear night. I have had run-ins with them before and I have no wish to draw undue notice. I soar in a long gliding circle to free my mind for concentration.

It takes but a moment.

Then the storm begins to build, drawing in clouds from the distant sea. They roil and churn in the darkening night, reaching forth with long writhing tendrils as if to grasp the town with a shadowy hand. A chilling gust of wind sweeps through the forest trees and the mists boil forth from the valley floor. All told, I spend an hour circling the town while the storm gathers its strength. Then, as the first lightnings begin to flash and the rains begin to fall, I descend on shadowy wings into the heart of Drisdak, the city on the Sea of Sorrows.

The mages guild is easy to find; its rancid stench of magic can be smelled from blocks away. It’s a tall building, made of stone, looking more like a miniature keep than a guild house. Five circular towers loom up from a central stone edifice. I have no doubt that Arcalian can be found in the highest tower in the room of the guild master, undoubtedly basking in the luxuries my services provided.
