SILENT KNIGHTS #MMromance #Excerpt

Silent Knights

Paul Stanton thinks he has it all, a great career, a nice condo, and a committed relationship with his boss. Then right before the holidays, his lover dumps him for another man. In a vulnerable moment, Paul decides to visit his childhood home in rural Pennsylvania rather than spend the holidays alone in San Francisco. But only two days with his family is enough to convince Paul that you can’t go home again.

Paul makes a hasty exit, but on the way to the airport, he’s stranded in a snowstorm. A chance meeting with a hunter is his only option for survival. Paul knows the type—a backwoods bigot just like the men he grew up with, but spending Christmas with the hunter convinces Paul there’s more to Andy Reynolds than meets the eye. Sparks fly but will they be enough to keep Paul from leaving when the roads are cleared?

Shit, shit, shit! Stuck in a fucking snow bank in the middle of nowhere. Do I sit here and hope a road crew finds me before I freeze to death?

Power and road access might be restored quickly in urban areas, but out here people were expected to be self-reliant. Most folks who lived in these woods had their own snowplows and gas generators to keep refrigerators and freezers running. It occurred to Paul, that he might find refuge with one of them. He looked down at his $600 shoes. They’d be ruined, and he’d fucking freeze with these useless driving gloves and no hat. A cold could turn into fucking pneumonia. Better to stay put and take his chances here.

Ten long fidgety minutes passed. How long could he sit here and run the heater? If snow blocked the car's tailpipe carbon monoxide fumes could get inside the Corolla and kill him in a heartbeat. The storm was only getting worse. Soon, walking would be out of the question. It’s now or never. Paul put his phone and keys in the fanny pack and buckled it around his waist.

The wool scarf made an impromptu head covering. For a few seconds, he couldn’t get the door open. It finally gave way, and Paul squeezed out before letting the wind slam it shut. The frigid air stole his breath, and a strong gust took his scarf. Fuck! Snow squished over the tops of his shoes and soaked his socks. Determined, Paul faced the wind head-on and put one foot in front of the other, but he felt like he was suffocating. Panicked, he turned his back to catch his breath, and tried walking backwards. He couldn’t see where he was going, but he made a little headway. Very little. Paul wondered if his family would be upset when somebody finally discovered his frozen body.
