Book Tour: Claimed by Love by Skye Jones #MMromance #Paranormal #Giveaway

Welcome Skye Jones! And thanks for agreeing to answer a few questions for the readers.

Thanks so much for hosting me on your blog. You asked me some questions about writing and here are my answers for you.

Where do you get your ideas?

I get them everywhere. My problem isn’t ideas. It’s too many ideas and nowhere near enough time to write them all. Then there is the issue of sorting through the ideas to see if there are any possible gems you want to work on some more. Because I write romance, you know there is going to be a basic plot structure. Boy meets girl/boy, etc. – and you will have a happy ever after, or happy for now, ending. The bit you have to think about is all the ways you will make that basic plot structure interesting. How do they get from A to B and what obstacles will you put in their way?

Do you ever experience writer’s block?

Do I? Every single book I’ve ever written I have suffered writers block. What tends to happen is – I steam ahead for the first half of the book, but then get stuck in the middle. I often actually leave the work alone for a while and write something else. The first book I ever wrote (many, many years ago), I got stuck and so just stopped writing – full stop. It took me years to get back to it as a hobby. So now, when the dreaded block hits, I keep on writing but allow myself to work on a different project until the kinks work themselves out in the story I am stuck on.

Do you work with an outline, or just write?

I start with a basic outline. About four or five pages of A4 paper. That is my basic plot. I get ideas though for a long while before I get to this stage, and fill books and post-its with notes about the characters and the story.
Then I do a lot of character work. I make sure I know them inside and out as they drive my plot. Once I’ve done the character work, I get to the basic plot outline. I keep it loose though, as I know it will change once I start writing. From there I write. I’m not one for plotting out each scene. It kills the whole process for me to do that. I would like to have a bit more structure though! I think I need to practice.

Is there any particular author or book that influenced you in any way either growing up or as an adult?

So many! I kind of hate to mention any as then I leave out so many other amazing authors. Armistead Maupin’s books influenced me. I love his writing. Stephen King, too. But I think the Vampire Lestat was probably the book that influenced me the most growing up. Well, that and Pride and Prejudice!

What project are you working on now?

I’ve got a few on the go. I have two novels that need a lot of polishing and editing, and one novella. I want to start work on a new m/m romance, featuring a real anti-hero. I always have more than one thing on the go – due the whole writers block situation I talked about earlier.

Thanks so very much for having me.

Excerpt:

“Hey.” Luke’s deep voice sent another shiver skittering up Sean’s back. “Miss me?”

“Always.” Sean turned and buried his face in Luke’s neck. As he inhaled deeply
he heard Luke do the same. Soft lips nuzzled at him moving down until they found the mating mark he’d placed on him when they’d bonded. Luke’s tongue laved over the spot
dragging a low moan out of Sean. It always hit him deep in his belly when Luke paid attention to the sensitive area. “How did it go?” he murmured as Luke continued his ministrations.

“Crappy. The guy was a pain in the ass” Luke said with a quirk of his lips. “I mean literally. Dude had this big old set of stone thrones like something out of a movie
and he offered me the one next to him. My ass went numb about twenty minutes in.”

Sean waggled his eyebrows. “Maybe I’ll have to massage it later bring it back to life.”

“Ass CPR?” Luke snorted. “Sounds…interesting.”
